Ostroh Academy wins another Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module project

Given its successful previous experience in implementing Jean Monnet projects, the National University of Ostroh Academy continues to actively participate in the European Union’s Erasmus+ program competitions. This year, the university has won another victory in the Jean Monnet Module competition with the scientific initiative “Modeling and Analysis of Information Warfare Processes as a Tool for Protecting Democracy in the EU and Countering Threats” (EUDemCT).

The project aims to study information warfare as one of the main threats to the democratic institutions of the European Union and Ukraine, as well as to develop educational, research, and awareness-raising mechanisms to counter hybrid threats. The initiators and implementers of the project are Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Anatoliy Nikitin; Bogdan Krasyuk, PhD in Applied Mathematics, Lecturer; Alla Atamanenko, PhD in History, Professor; Ivan Shishkin, PhD in History, Associate Professor; and Kateryna Yakunina, PhD in History, Associate Professor.

Main objectives and expected results of the project implementation:

  • Introduction of a bachelor’s degree course on information warfare and EU security policy, which will cover more than 75 students over three years of teaching and provide them with up-to-date knowledge on cybersecurity, countering hybrid threats, and digital protection.
  • Development of interdisciplinary training modules on information influence modeling and strategic decision-making, which will contribute to the modernisation of the university’s educational programs.
  • Conducting training sessions for educators, which will prepare 180 school teachers and higher education lecturers to identify and effectively counter digital disinformation.
  • Creation of scientific output in the form of two peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals covering the issues of information warfare, hybrid threats, and security policy.
  • Launching a digital platform that will serve as an interactive environment for disseminating the project’s results: it will host training materials, analytical reports, and research findings, reaching over 5,000 users.

Assistant to the Rector for Project Activities, Candidate of Sciences in Public Administration, Associate Professor Olena Shershnova noted:

“The EUDemCT project is a clear continuation of the tradition of security studies at Ostroh Academy, which was established long before the current challenges. The multidisciplinary team — comprising experts in mathematics, cybersecurity, information technology, political science, and history — ensures a comprehensive approach to the problem of hybrid threats. The winning project is not just a logical continuation of the academic tradition, but its strategic strengthening and development in modern conditions.”

Congratulations to the team of authors, and we wish you every success in implementing the project!
